HOLLYWOOD, Fla., (October 22, 2026) – Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF) announced it has received a $500,000 grant from the Citi Foundation through its 2026 Community Finance Initiative to expand access to financial coaching and resources that help South Florida families strengthen their financial well-being and build pathways toward long-term economic mobility.
HUF is one of just 70 community organizations selected from across the country to receive funding through the Citi Foundation’s 2026 Community Finance Initiative. The $35 million initiative provides a collective $35 million in philanthropic funding to community organizations that are helping low-income households address affordability challenges and build greater financial resilience.
The investment will expand HUF’s reach in Miami-Dade County while strengthening services in Broward County. Personalized guidance will help families address immediate challenges and pursue longer-term goals.
“Every family deserves the opportunity to build a better future, not just for themselves, but for the next generation,” said Felipe Pinzon, President and CEO of Hispanic Unity of Florida. “Financial prosperity is about more than making ends meet. It is about giving working families access to trusted financial coaches, proven tools, and new opportunities to build assets, grow wealth, and create a legacy for their children and grandchildren. Citi Foundation’s investment will help connect more families across Broward and Miami-Dade counties with the guidance, knowledge, and resources they need to achieve long-term prosperity and economic mobility. Opportunity and access are often the missing ingredients for families striving to move ahead, and this grant will help open those doors. We are deeply grateful for Citi Foundation’s partnership and commitment to creating opportunity for the communities we serve.”
The funding will support HUF’s Center for Working Families (CWF), an integrated model combining financial coaching and education with employment, benefits, housing and entrepreneurship resources. Services are tailored to each household and may include budgeting, credit improvement, debt reduction, savings and financial planning.
“The path towards achieving financial health looks different for everyone – some families may be concerned about emergency costs while others may be thinking about saving for retirement. Community organizations are there, providing trusted guidance, during every step of this journey,” said Brandee McHale, Head of Community Investing and
Development at Citi and President of the Citi Foundation in the announcement. “At a time when many families are feeling stretched, we’re proud to support nonprofits that are showing up every day with the tools and support that American households need to pursue economic opportunity. This effort complements the breadth of work from Citi and the Citi Foundation to address the growing affordability crisis in the U.S., including our Blueprint for Housing Opportunity initiative launched earlier this year.”
The award builds on HUF’s longstanding relationship with Citi Foundation and their shared commitment to economic opportunity for South Florida families.
